The Algorithm of Love (part 1)

I just received a notification from LinkedIn (tucked away in my spam folder) gently reminding me that I haven’t posted in a while and that “Posting once a week can lead to 4x more profile views.” I know LinkedIn. I know.

That is exactly why I have been away. I’ve been busy growing my Instagram presence with “consistent” posting. And then I figured I’d take a minute to streamline my efforts and hit two vultures with one stone. (I'm just not a fan of hurting cute birds).

Running a personal business page on social media is like dating. But not the casual, “I’ll text you when I feel like it” kind of dating. Nope. The algorithm is looking for a serious, consistent relationship. One where you show up regularly, put in the effort and prove you’re here for the long haul.

Imagine you’re dating someone amazing… when they’re around. They plan a killer date, charm you with great stories, and then vanish for weeks. No texts, no calls, nothing. How long before you start losing interest? That’s precisely how the algorithm feels when your business page shows up sporadically.

Just like any relationship, the algorithm loves consistency. Posting regularly (whether it’s art, crafts, or the latest from your shop) is the equivalent of planning thoughtful dates. It builds trust with your audience and reassures them (and the algorithm) that you’re serious about this relationship.

And hey. You don’t have to be extravagant and impressive every time. Some days, it’s a big, exciting post: a new product launch or a behind-the-scenes video of your process. On other days, it’s something simple, like a quick update or a fun story. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about showing up.

Think of it like a great relationship: balanced, reliable, and never dull. Some days, you’ll have big announcements. On other days, it’s just a quick story or a fun post to keep the conversation going. The magic is in keeping the connection alive. Treat your content like dates: the variety keeps things exciting. The mix keeps your audience (and the algorithm) hooked. They never know what kind of date they’re about to go on, but they know it’ll be good.

The algorithm of LOVE

Running a business page yourself, without the help of a digital agency/community manager, is about more than just selling. It’s about building relationships. And relationships need effort. They need attention. They need consistent love notes to keep the spark alive. So, treat your business page the way you’d treat a date you actually like: show up, put in the effort, and don’t leave them waiting too long.

The algorithm notices when you’re putting in the effort. Consistent posting doesn’t just keep your audience engaged; it’s like earning relationship points with the algorithm. It rewards your commitment by boosting visibility and helping more people discover you. The more you show up, the better your chances of getting seen.

Ultimately, the algorithm and your audience just want to know you care.
