The World Youth Rights Forum will be held in Uzbekistan on 12-13 August 2021. The initiative to hold it was put forward by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 46th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
According to the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the forum will be held in a hybrid format. UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, UN Secretary General's Envoy on Youth Jayathma Wickramanayake, Inter-Parliamentary Union Secretary General Martin Chungong, OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid and other leaders of international structures are expected to address the event.
Over 500 representatives from more than 30 countries and international organizations have confirmed their participation in the World Youth Rights Forum.
The Convention on the Rights of Youth, which is also being created on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, voiced at the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, is being drafted.
The participation of young people in the development of their countries in the context of the impact of COVID-19 on vulnerable youth groups, measures to support young people in access to quality education, productive employment, participation of young people in making decisions that affect their lives will be considered at Tashkent Forum.
Participants will discuss how to improve existing international mechanisms for the protection and promotion of youth rights so that young people can fully exercise their rights without any discrimination.
